The Texas Gold Round - Gold Bullion

History Of The Texas Gold Round

In 2018, Texas Precious Metals spun off the Texas Mint as its own division with the purpose of distributing an expanded product line of beautifully designed, world-class bullion products to other precious metals wholesalers and retailers. Using the Texas State Capitol as the theme for these products, the Texas Mint introduced one-ounce silver rounds, one-ounce gold bars, one-ounce silver bars, ten-ounce silver bars, and one-hundred-ounce silver bars, in addition to the one-ounce Texas Gold Round.

Which is the Best Gold Coin to Buy?

Scarcity, design, and demand determine which coins are considered most collectible at any given point in time. Coins purchased as gifts or collectible investments are often chosen because someone prefers their design. Every year, both private and sovereign mints produce new coins with unique design variations, some of which are minted only for a limited time, thereby influencing their value and availability.

The Texas Mint offers the Texas Gold Round for those wishing to purchase gold coins for the lowest possible premium and without being subject to 1099-B reporting. The 1-oz Texas Gold Round, made of .9999 pure, fine gold, is the least expensive gold medallion on the market.

What is the Difference Between a “Round” and a “Coin”?

It is important to understand the difference between a “round” and a “coin.” A round is a privately minted, non-legal tender medallion in the size and shape of a coin. It has no “face value.” In contrast, a coin, minted by a sovereign mint, has legal-tender face value.

Both options offer the same weight, form factor, and purity (ranging from .999 to .9999 pure depending on product). The round, however, tends to sell at a lower premium relative to spot price because private mints are not subject to the same financial burdens—and taxation—as sovereign mints.

Differences between a round and a coin:

  • legal tender vs. non-legal tender value
  • sovereign minting vs. private minting
  • design varieties
  • premiums/cost

Some clients prefer the “official” designation of a sovereign coin, while others prefer to acquire gold in coin form at the lowest cost. It is a matter of personal preference.

Texas Gold Rounds from Texas Precious Metals fulfill many collectors’ preference for aesthetic design and purity. In addition, they well serve an investor’s financial goals because they provide incomparable return on investment when resold.
